Amalfi Curse Has Stolen Char’s Heart

Sometimes when you lose someone you feel the need to finish something for them. For Haven in Amalfi Curse by Sarah Penner, it’s her father’s dying wish that she finds a treasure. Or at least that’s what she thinks. Along the way she finds a history she never thought to be true.

Haven Ambrose, a trailblazing nautical archaeologist, has come to the sun-soaked village of Positano to investigate the mysterious shipwrecks along the Amalfi Coast. But Haven is hoping to find more than old artifacts beneath the azure waters; she is secretly on a quest to locate a trove of priceless gemstones her late father spotted on his final dive. Upon Haven’s arrival, strange maelstroms and misfortunes start plaguing the town. Is it nature or something more sinister at work? As Haven searches for her father’s sunken treasure, she begins to unearth a centuries-old tale of ancient sorcery and one woman’s quest to save her lover and her village by using the legendary art of stregheria, a magical ability to harness the ocean. Could this magic be behind Positano’s latest calamities? Haven must unravel the Amalfi Curse before the region is destroyed forever… Against the dazzling backdrop of the Amalfi Coast, this bewitching novel shimmers with mystery, romance and the untamed magic of the sea.

Sarah Penner writes beautiful stories about people find themselves through some unlikely situations. She also expertly mixes the past with the future. Maybe that’s why I love to read her books. The Lost Apothecary by her is also one of my favorite books. Amalfi was so well crafted and I really enjoyed the characters. I also find that Sarah writes villains as not much as evil but people who go behind the backs of people or just make bad choices that hurt the main character. They aren’t actually bad people, just bad choices. Haven really felt like a real person. I liked that she wasn’t perfect and showed some struggles but also found more than she bargained for. The little bit of a love story added in also felt right. I just really enjoyed this book and hope to get it into everyone’s hands. I know this story might not be for anyone but it has a well thought out and researched depth to it that I think most people would enjoy.
