Char Gets Cozy With ‘The House In The Cerulean Sea’

When it comes to fall reads, there’s nothing quite like a book that wraps you in a warm hug. While many opt for spooky or mysterious tales, some of us crave a cozy escape. ‘The House in the Cerulean Sea’ by TJ Klune is the perfect choice. It’s got just the right amount of spookiness with its magical creatures, and the setting of a cozy island is just what you need to snuggle up with this fall.

Linus Baker is a caseworker who does everything by the book. He works for the department in charge of magical youth and is content with his life. He has a small house and a cat. He doesn’t need to be sent away on a secret assignment, but that’s what happens. He is sent to a highly classified island to decide if six highly dangerous youths are dangerous. Once there, he is surprised to find he has yet to be told everything to be able to do his job. Even more curious is that there is almost nothing to know about the master of the Orphanage, Arthur Parnassus. Will the Orphanage stay open, or is the world doomed?

I can’t accurately portray how much I loved this book. TJ Klune writes such beautiful characters with so much depth that you can’t help but fall in love with them. Linus starts to withdraw, and as the story goes on, he becomes colorful and bright. While most characters are not human, the way they are described, it almost feels like they are the norm. I also loved the subtle love story between Arthur and Linus. The way it builds until the end, where Linus finally figures out his feelings, made me so happy. Each character was so different and well done. Seriously, just read this cozy book. I am trying too hard not to spoil it. It’s so comfy, and while it’s not set in the fall, I think it’s the perfect read for this season because I wanted to just curl up with a blanket and read this adorable story. Even HB enjoyed it!
