Char Read And Now Reviews: The Bones Beneath My Skin

The earliest UFO sighting in America was in 1639. Many people believe in life on other planets. Nate in KJ Klune’s The Bones Beneath My Skin never thought about something like that, and if he did, it was probably just the typical little green man with big black eyes.

There’s nothing more peaceful than a family cabin and being able to escape from reality. Nate Cartwright needed just that. After his father died, he was left with his old truck and cabin. Nate thought a peaceful cabin trip would help him grieve and find himself. He never expected to go to the cabin and find people living there.  Now, he’s almost kidnapped in his own sanctuary.
Alex is just trying to keep Artemis Darth Vader alive and safe. So when they get caught squatting in a cabin, all Alex can think about is keeping their whereabouts secret, so he forces Nate to hide with them until he can figure out what to do. Artemis isn’t just any normal 10-year-old girl. She is so much more. The first weird thing Nate notices is her name. Now, all three people are set on this very confusing path, and Nate must decide what he wants to do. Stay with Alex and Artemis, or go back to his confusing life. What would you do?

TJ Klune is an author I discovered this year. I have reviewed a couple of his books, and I can’t help but love them. His writing is lyrical and almost poetic. He has this amazing ability to write characters that start so simple and then grow to be deep and insightful, making you feel connected to them. I love how his stories are slow to develop but have an almost real quality.
When I saw that TJ Klune was coming out with a new book, I couldn’t help but jump to get it. As I said before, I love his writing and how it draws you in. I enjoy the themes he has hidden in his stories and the fact that everything melts together perfectly. Some people are born to write, and he is one of them. I also feel like he writes a little bit for everyone. This story covers aliens, and I found it very interesting. I liked how his creation of aliens was more of a gas-type entity, a unique and fascinating concept. Artemis is probably my favorite character that he has written so far. I enjoyed reading about her and the relationships she developed. I don’t have any good stories about UFOs or aliens, but it’s still fun to read about them. This story is one of those cases!
