Char Reads And Reviews Dreadful

What if you woke up in a creepy castle with no memories of who you are and why you were there? Would you try to figure out what happened to your memories or just become someone completely new? Those are the same questions Gav asked in Caitlin Rozakis’s book Dreadful.

This story follows Gav, who has yet to learn who he is and what he should do. Gav wakes up in what looks like a burning workshop, a castle full of goblins, and a princess in the dungeon. How did that happen? Who is he? He decided to try to play the role of dark wizard Dreadlord Gavrax. He can’t let anyone know he has no idea what he’s faking. The worst thing is that he is the Dreadlord Gavrax and part of an evil plan. As Gav works through the days trying to find himself, he makes friends with the Princess and tries to do some good, but the problem is that doing good is so hard when you’re already evil.

This book is a refreshing new fantasy, and everyone will like it! It was unbelievably fun to read about a character who has no idea who he is and how he tries to better himself. Another exciting and unique character is Princess Elisha. Initially, she seems like a damsel in distress, but as Gav gets to know her, she is intelligent and complex. I liked how she unknowingly taught Gav to be kinder. I also really enjoyed all the Goblins. Caitlin Rozakis does an excellent job at creating characters with a lot of depth and fun to read about. I wish I could reread this book for the first time.
