Char reads ‘The Measure’

If you could know how long you would live, would you want to know? Would you find out the length of life your significant other has? How would this change your life? All these are just some of the questions everyone in ‘The Measure’ by Nikki Erlick had to answer for themselves and the world.

It was a typical day until it wasn’t. On every doorstep worldwide, a box sits for everyone over twenty-two years old. This box holds everyone’s fate in it. In each box, there was a string. The length of the string determines the length of your life. This fact threw the world into chaos. Where did the boxes come from, and was it the truth? Everyone had to face the choice. Do they look or ignore it and leave it to fate. This story follows multiple people who have to decide on their fate. Are they a short string or long string? As you read, you’ll find yourself empathizing with their struggles and pondering your own choices.

I was told by a friend to read this book. At first, I added it to the ever-growing list but knew that I would get to it eventually. Only when she told me this was a great story, did I decide to open it and read it? I even made a big show of buying the audiobook before her so she knew I would read it. When I finally did, I was blown away. I loved the characters, and I cried with them. I laughed and smiled at the cute parts and couldn’t believe I had never read this book. This book covers so many topics, but the main one is choice. You have to choose as you grow; one choice can mean many things. I was blown away as I read this. I think this book should be on everyone’s shelves. It’s a book that I will read again, and I will get something new from it. I love this book so much, but I don’t know how to describe it accurately without ruining it. Just read this book!
