Char Reviews: Fable For The End Of The World

Have you finished the new Hunger Games novel and now have no idea what to read next? Ava Reid’s book Fable for the End of the World is just that book. It has romance, fighting, and an expert hunter.

The Lambs Gauntlet is the top show. The next lamb has been chosen. Inesa must die to fulfill her mother’s debts. Her mother has given her to the games, and with only a few hours, Inesa has to prepare. Melinoe is the assassin chosen to hunt Inesa. They aren’t alone when Melinoe and Inesa are thrust into the apocalyptic wasteland. With the cameras rolling, they have to fight each other, but when things get complicated, and the cameras are off, the girls must try and trust each other to survive some lurking creatures. Can Inesa survive, or will she be used only for entertainment?

Ava Reid has a unique writing style. Some of her books are impressive, while others I couldn’t finish. However, this particular book is one that I truly enjoyed. I’m thrilled to see the rise in dystopian novels—there’s nothing quite like being transported to an apocalyptic world and reading about people struggling to survive.

My main issue with the book was that I wanted more from Inesa’s brother; I wished he had continued to support her throughout the story. I found Inesa’s character to be kind but a bit slow at times. However, she really shined when she was interacting with Melinoe.

Additionally, this book gave me serious “Hunger Games” vibes, which I loved. Since I’m a fan of “The Hunger Games,” I tend to dive into books with similar themes without fully knowing what they’re about. It’s worth noting that there are some LGBTQ+ themes in the story, so if you’re uncomfortable with that, this book may not be for you. You could also choose to skip those parts if you prefer. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and its story, so I highly recommend it!
