Dancer Romance Surprises Char

Romance readers know that one of the biggest tropes right now is sports romance. However, for most of them, it is a dancer and a hockey player, or a figure skater and a hockey player. What would be more interesting than a ballet dancer and a male dancer/business owner? In Toe to Toe by Falon Ballard, you have the chance to find out.
It takes two to tango. Allegra Hart has been working her whole life toward one goal: becoming a principal ballerina. When her director starts holding auditions for the lead role in the company’s latest production, Allegra sees this as her chance—maybe her last chance. The catch? The director wants someone with sex appeal, and he doesn’t think she’s up to the task. Determined to prove him wrong, Allegra enlists the help of the lead dancer of an all-male revue, Cord Donovan, a classically trained dancer who is also the sexiest man she’s ever met. In exchange for lessons on how to ramp up her sex appeal, she promises to help Cord choreograph a new partner piece for his show. As they practice their moves on and off the stage, Allegra and Cord find themselves battling a growing attraction, all the more illicit because Cord has sworn to never partner with a ballerina. Allegra is determined not to let a man derail her career, but what if she could have both love and success? Or will her involvement with Cord jeopardize everything she’s worked for?
What!? Is Char going to review another romance? Surprised? Really, you shouldn’t be! Anyway, yes, I am going to review another romance and probably more this year, so buckle up. I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was refreshing to read about people other than hockey players. Don’t worry, I still love those. When I was offered the advanced reader’s copy of this, I actually couldn’t wait to get it in the mail. Once it was here, I put everything aside, just read, and let me tell you I loved it. I was so angry at Cord during the third-act breakup. Also, Allegra is a total badass. She stuck true to herself as the story went on and even fought for herself. Cord’s growth in this book was so well done. Honestly, this probably all sounds like a bit of nonsense, but I don’t want to give anything away. I think the biggest problem I had was the ballet side. I don’t know anything about that world, so to read some of the negative things about it made me really wonder. There are toxic things in every industry, but I guess you never hear much about ballet, or I’m just not in those circles. I really am not. Still, I really enjoyed this book and hope everyone else enjoys it too.
