Meet Leaf and Petal

Some 40 years ago (has it really been THAT long!?!) my wonderful sister gifted me my first 35mm camera. I have been in love with photography from that moment on.

What started as a way of capturing memories changed over the years to include exploring the art found in our surroundings. To capture fleeting moments of color, light and movement. I especially love photographing the dance of color and light in nature.

I wanted a way to share some of my photos combined with my love of paper and pen and so began using my photography to create covers on the notebooks and journals I design.

There is an process to working with photos after the pictures have been taken that I find fascinating and absorbing. I can relive the moment captured while bringing out the details of color, light and composition. Add a bit of background sound in the form of audio books, podcasts and music (ususally classical) and the hours fly by.

Do I like to read? You bet I do! Considering that my art features lovely, peaceful nature scenes it might seem strange that I am drawn to well crafted tales of suspense and horror. I love a good scary story. Some favorite authors include Jonathan Maberry, Stephen King, C.J. Cooke and Darcy Coates although this is by no means a complete list of favorites. Minnesota is graced with some wonderful authors that write terrific thrillers. Check out authors Christine Husom, William Kent Krueger and Cary Griffith to name just a few.

Watertown is blessed to have its own bookstore owned by someone who combines her love of books with an appreciation of the work of local artists. I am delighted that my journals and notebooks are on display in such a lovely venue with fellow artists that are so talented. Thank you Charlotte!
