The Rainfall Market Review By Charlotte

Have you ever wanted to see what your life would be like if you had made a different choice? What if you could go to a special place and trade in one life for another? Would you do it? These are the questions that will bring you to the book, The Rainfall Market by You Yeong-Gwang. This fantastical tale brings you through a market full of fun characters while answering those questions.
On the outskirts of Rainbow Town, there is an old, abandoned house. They say that if you send a letter detailing your misfortunes there, you could receive a ticket. If you bring this ticket to the house on the first day of the rainy season, you’ll be granted entrance into the mysterious Rainfall Market—where you can choose to change your life completely. No one is more surprised than Serin when she receives a ticket. Lonely and with no real prospects for a future, Serin ventures to the market, determined to create a better life for herself. There, she meets a magical cat companion named Issha, and they search through bookstores, perfumeries, and fantastical realms while Serin tries to determine what her perfect life will look like. The catch? Serin only has one week to find her happiness or be doomed to vanish into the market forever.
When I chose this book for the book club, I thought that everyone would enjoy a shorter book during the holiday season. What I didn’t expect was how much happened in the 206 pages. This book follows Serin, who is down on her luck, and she wants a new life. She writes a letter and receives a golden ticket to the rainfall market. Once she enters the world, she is transported to a beautiful world. The creatures in this world each had their own personality and were very interesting. I felt like this book had the vibes of Spirited Away. So in my mind, I was transported to a world like that. I loved how Serin felt like a real person, how she struggled and grew, and how she also took steps back. Her kitty Issha was so fun to read about as she grew, and her obsession with food was great! I really enjoyed the magic of this book, and I hope that you give it a chance. I also listened to a little bit of it, and I would totally recommend the narration too. Libro. Fm has it too!
